It is of course possible in theory but nothing that I'm planning to do
in the near future.  I don't think it would make much sense and there
are no plans for updates in the next weeks/months anyway.

It makes sense for my use case. I am writing regexes to parse log  
lines. Many times the lines contain more than 10 fields (capture  
groups). I currently work around this limitation by converting some of  
the groups to non-capturing groups. I understand you don't currently  
have any plans to update this feature, I just wanted to let you  
understand my use case, and let you know how much I depend on this tool.
