I'm sorry about the trouble you had trying to use XCVB. XCVB is
undergoing major refactoring right now, and the master branch isn't
working at all (though it should compile correctly). To use the
working prototype, you need to checkout tag xcvb_0.11 which seems to
also require creating a branch (oops). Here's how this can be done:

   git checkout -b working_prototype xcvb_0.11

That's a dependency I added recently in the master branch. I ought to
document it indeed. Thanks for that bug report! The dependency isn't
required for the working prototype, though (I recently added a
simple-print-object gf for debugging).
